The 2015 Fall Conference
CLLA's 2015 Fall Conference recap
November 12-14, 2015, CLLA returned to New York City for the Annual Fall Conference, held at the Sheraton Times Square. Attendance for the 2015 conference was just about equal to last year, with almost twice the number of agency registrants in attendance. The atmosphere was pleasant and positive, continuing the tone set at the Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. Attendees enjoyed nightly receptions, including the Friday night cocktail party featuring a conference tradition, "Warren's Martini Bar".
At the heart of the conference were the six high quality educational programs, providing ethics CLE and Certification credits. A total of 7.75 CLE credits and 5 Agency Certification credits were available. The theme to this year's programs was, “The Life of a File”, and program titles were:
- Don’t Just Close that File: How a Collection Practitioner Can Collect Despite a Bankruptcy
- Managing Employment Liabilities in Agency Staffing
- Extending Credit to Strangers: Is your credit application putting you at risk?
- Fraudulent Conveyances, Part Two: Squeezing Harder: Everything You Didn’t Learn Last Year and More!
- Advanced Collection Procedures: Managing Expectations - Getting the Client from Angry to Happy!
- Defining "Debt" and Other Conundrums under the FDCPA: Contradictions and Clarifications
As always, the CLLA also held a variety of committee meetings, including a Board of Governors Business Session, open to all league members. Several concrete programs and plans came out of the committee meetings, with a significant number of members volunteering to run or coordinate these efforts.
We’ve recently uploaded the video of President Bob Bernstein's presentation at the business session to the CLLA YouTube page. Click here to view the video. All members are encouraged to watch and listen to this timely and appropriate message, as each member considers their role in the CLLA and the benefits it can bring to you and your practices.
The 2.5 day program ended with the Attorney-Agency Networking Event held Saturday morning. The roundtable discussion format was an excellent opportunity for forwarders and agency representatives to discuss relevant issues in an open dialogue.
Finally, after each jammed packed day of the conference, additional off-site social activities were offered. YMS hosted an evening of fun at the Gotham Comedy Club, members met at Names & Faces for an evening of revelry, and had the option of attending a Broadway musical, "On Your Feet!" the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan.
The Fall Conference was another excellent example of how you can Meet, Learn, & Play with the CLLA! If you missed the Fall Conference, we hope to see you at the Annual Meeting, April 6-9, 2016. Watch for more information coming soon!
