Update: Senator Markey Introduces Robocalling Bill

Sharon Edmondson, Washington Legislative Team Member | November 05, 2015

The "Hang Up Act" - Another Bill impacting the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015.

As a follow up to an earlier update, Senator Markey (D-MA) and 10 other senators, all Democrats or Independents, have introduced a bill to roll back a recent budget provision that made it easier for debt servicers to robocall borrowers’ cellphones. The Hang Up Act would repeal the small Commerce section of the bipartisan budget deal approved last week that exempted government debt collectors from portions of the TCPA.

Earlier legislation by Senator Markey was passed in the 1990’s with the goal that consumers should not be subject to intrusive calls on their mobile devices.
